U.S. election: A Donald Trump ally, Mitch McConnell, congratulates Joe Biden on his presidential win



Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a leading Republican and ally of President Donald Trump, has congratulated Joe Biden on his presidential election win.

This came after the Electoral College formally certified today’s victory of President-elect Biden.

Biden received 306 votes from the Electoral College to Trump’s 232.

However, Senator Mitch McConnell congratulated Biden on his win on the floor of the Senate.

He said, “Our government system has processes in place to determine who on January 20 will be sworn in.”

He added that Biden is no stranger to the Senate and “has been dedicated to public service for many years.”

He also congratulated Kamala Harris, the Vice President-elect, saying:

All Americans should be proud, beyond our differences, that our country has elected a female vice president for the first time.

“I look forward to finishing the next 36 days strong with President Trump. Our nation needs us to add another bipartisan chapter to this success story.”
