Popular beaches covered by plastic waste in Bali – video

Piles of debris and plastic waste washed up by powerful waves on Kuta Beach on the popular island of Bali have been cleaned up by Indonesian workers.

Authorities estimate that between 30 and 60 tons of garbage is collected daily from the most popular beaches on the island.

While the flood of garbage on Bali’s beaches is a normal occurrence at this time of year, due to weather conditions, authorities say this year is even worse. At this time of year, there will usually be thousands of tourists in Bali, but the coronavirus pandemic has halted travel from overseas and there are few visitors.
