President Donald Trump has promised to “fight like hell” to retain the presidency and called on Republican lawmakers to reverse Joe Biden’s election defeat when they meet to certify the Electoral College vote this week.

Under pressure to reverse Mr. Trump’s performance, Vice President Mike Pence will be closely watched as he presides over the joint session on Wednesday in a ceremonial capacity.
“I promise you this: On Wednesday, we will have our day in Congress,” Mr. Pence said as he himself campaigned in Georgia ahead of Tuesday’s runoff election to decide Senate power.

In Tuesday’s runoff, one of the Georgia Republicans – Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who is running against Democrat Raphael Warnock – told the crowd that she will join senators officially opposing the victory of Mr. Biden.

Mr. Trump has consistently reiterated his charges of electoral fraud, which have been dismissed by both Republican and Democratic state-by-state election authorities and by U.S. courts. The Court Supreme.
Biden, speaking on Monday at a drive-in rally in Atlanta, said Trump “spends more time whining and complaining” than addressing the pandemic of coronavirus.

Several House Democrats challenged the victory of Mr. Trump in 2017, but Mr. Biden, who presided as vice president at the time, immediately dismissed them to claim the victory of Mr. Trump.
