Ventnor documents release drags on

The slow process of uploading 80,000 pages of cabinet documents over a botched planning decision by former Victorian planning minister, now Opposition Leader Matthew Guy, drags on.

The Andrews Labor government tabled the documents in parliament on Monday, but by Tuesday evening only part of box five out of 32 had been released publicly.

In 2011, Mr Guy rezoned farmland at Ventnor on Phillip Island for housing, sparking widespread criticism, including from US pop star Miley Cyrus, and an Ombudsman investigation.

The decision was ultimately reversed, leading to a legal fight from the would-be developers.

So far, the documents have revealed about $3.5 million in taxpayer funds were used to settle the legal claim, including legal costs.

Their release has also prompted Mr Guy to vow revenge against the Labor government if he wins power at the November state election.

He said he would start by making public documents on the decision to dump the East West Link and the combative CFA pay dispute.
