A greedy squirrel has bitten off more than it could chew after getting itself wedged inside a bird feeder.
The hungry creature scrambled inside the metal feeder to feast on seeds but got stuck after it tried to wriggle through the bars after its cheeky meal.
The homeowner spotted the trapped animal in the back garden of her home in Redditch, Worcestershire and called the RSPCA, last Sunday.
RSPCA Inspector Suzi Smith said they received a call from a concerned woman about the trapped squirrel trapped in the metal feeder.
‘He’d somehow managed to get his back legs wedged right in the metal bars and, thrashing around, knocked the bird feeder over the fence and onto the grass.
‘He was quite literally caught red-handed with his hands in the cookie jar – or should I say paws in the bird feeder,’ she added.
Ms Smith explained that she put the whole feeder into a basket and wrapped the squirrel in a towel so she could carefully wriggle him free.
‘Thankfully, I was able to carefully free him by cutting a couple of the metal bars and squeezing him out.
She gave it a quick check over in the garden before releasing him.
