Savannah Guthrie has reflected on the ‘miracle’ of having a baby at the age of 42 while celebrating her daughter Vale’s sixth birthday with a sweet tribute.
The Today co-anchor took to Instagram on Thursday to share emotional photos of herself holding Vale in the hospital for the first time after giving birth to her first child.
‘I believe in love at first sight. And I believe in miracles. Having a baby at 42 was certainly both,’ Savannah, 48, wrote in the caption. ‘I am thanking God today and every day. I will never, ever, ever get over this blessing. There is always hope.’
The first photo in the slideshow shows Savannah looking at Vale with wonder and complete love just moments after she gave birth.
In the next, the new mom is smiling while Vale is curled up next to her cheek. The final images show Savannah holding her baby and cuddling her on her chest.
Earlier in the day, she paid tribute to her eldest child on her birthday by sharing photos of her throughout the years, starting with when she was a baby.
One particularly adorable shot shows baby Vale wearing a green and white polka dot bikini while happily chewing on her finger. The next image shows her with food all of her face as a toddler.
Savannah ended the series with pictures of Vale as a little girl, wearing a number of different outfits, including a leotard with a tutu, a Little Red Riding Hood costume, a shiny silver motorcycle jacket, and bright pink glasses.
The final photo shows a smiling Vale opening a gift while wearing a sparkly birthday crown. She is surrounded by loved ones, including her younger brother, Charley.
‘This little bundle of sparkle came into our lives six years ago today… and oh, how we have loved you every moment since,’ Savannah captioned the images.
‘Vale Guthrie Feldman, you really do have a touch of stardust in you.
‘You shine and smile and laugh and love with every drop of energy in your being. Your joy is infectious and your affection is for all. You are the gift we get to unwrap every day. Happiest 6th Birthday.’
Savannah was 42 when she married her husband, Mike Feldman, and on their big day, they announced to their family and friends that she was four months pregnant with baby Vale.
Two years later, they welcomed their now three-year-old son, Charley.
Speaking with People magazine last year, the mother of two admitted that she didn’t think having children was in the cards for her because of her age.
‘I always wanted to be a mom, and it took us so long to get married — we dated for so long — that we thought maybe it was too late and we’d lost our chance,’ she said. ‘When we found out we were pregnant, I don’t think there were two happier people on this planet.’
Savannah pointed out that there are benefits to having children in your 40s, saying. that she has a ‘good head on [her] shoulders’ and is ‘able to prioritize.’
‘I think there’s a luxury to feel calm enough and not to feel the same pressures as in your 20s and 30s, when you are really trying to make your career happen,’ she explained.
‘Now, I can really take my time and enjoy our kids,’ she added. ‘We feel so lucky to have each other.’
