Michael Kopech and Vanessa Morgan are getting divorced just three days after she announced they were expecting a boy together.
According to TMZ, citing court docs, the Chicago White Sox pitcher filed to split from the actress on June 19.
The pitching prospect, 24, who has decided not to play this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, was not on hand when the TV stunner, 28, had a gender reveal last week.
In an emotional post shared with her Instagram followers on Friday, the star of Riverdale revealed that she would be ‘welcoming [her] baby boy into the world this January.’
Along with her lengthy caption, Morgan included photos from her gender reveal party, a snapshot of her positive pregnancy test, and a video from her very first ultrasound.
‘Was debating keeping this part of my life hidden but I knew people would see pictures eventually with my belly & I wanted you guys to hear it from me,’ began Vanessa, who boasts 8.6million followers on Instagram.
Though she wanted to be the ‘first to share the news’, Morgan emphasized that she intends to ‘keep this chapter of [her] life private.’
‘I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January. It’s almost like everything I thought mattered in this life has completely changed.. We’re here for such a greater purpose and life is so precious,’ she gushed.
At her caption’s midway point, Vanessa directly addressed her unborn son and marveled at how much impact he has already had on her life.
‘I can’t believe how much growth & strength you’ve already given me as your mom. It’s like God knew I needed you, my angel. The universe works in mysterious ways but always times everything the way it was meant to be.
‘Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing ☺️ I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate everyday to being the best mommy I can be.’
To conclude her emotional post, Morgan included a quote from the beloved children’s book Love You Forever by Robert Munsch.
‘”I’ll love you forever I’ll like you for always as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be'” – if you know you know.’
In the various clips and photos shared from her gender reveal party, Vanessa sported a spaghetti strap maxi dress that aptly included the colors pink and blue in its pattern.
Her hair was intricately braided and styled into a dramatic half up, half down ‘do as she bursted a balloon filled with blue powder.
She gave fans a glimpse at the various decor that dominated the gender reveal party, which included plenty of pink and blue balloons and plenty of baby themed treats. Guests were encouraged to pick ‘Team Girl’ or ‘Team Boy’ and there were cupcakes that included a cheeky decoration that read: ‘Here for the sex.’
Kopech, who was previously involved with Bravo star Brielle Biermann, proposed to Morgan in July of 2019, during a trip to Havasu Falls, Arizona. They exchanged vows January 4 at Florida’s Historic Walton House.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn announced earlier this month that the right-hander would not be playing in the abbreviated baseball season.
‘Michael Kopech has informed us of his decision to not participate in the 2020 season,’ Hahn said July 10, according to ESPN. ‘We recognize that reaching this decision is incredibly difficult for any competitive athlete, and our organization is understanding and supportive.’
Kopech, regarded as one of the brightest prospects in baseball, was throwing at 100 mph during spring training less than two years after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Vanessa is best known for playing the role of Toni Topaz in the popular CW series Riverdale, which is based on the classic Archie comics. Riverdale first premiered on the CW in January of 2017 and was renewed for a fifth season in June.
The teen-drama series also stars Disney Channel alum Cole Sprouse, Hustlers actress Lili Reinhart, New Zealand actor KJ Apa, and actress Camila Mendes.
