They were plenty shaken after the 6.4 earthquake that struck near Los Angeles on the 4th of July.
But on Friday, an even larger 6.9 earthquake sent denizens of Southern California scrambling.
‘It’s a phkn earthquake OMG,’ reacted Nicki Minaj, 36, on Instagram shortly after the quake struck at 8:19 p.m. PT.
Originally listed at magnitude 7.1, the rattler was quickly downgraded to 6.9.
Though it might seem only slightly more powerful than Thursday’s 6.4 earthquake, the logarithmic nature of the Richter scale means that only small increases on the scale are considerably more powerful.
The epicenter was again located about 150 miles north of Los Angeles in Ridgecrest.
This newest quake was considerably more powerful than the 6.7 Northridge earthquake that struck LA in 1994, causing considerable damage across the city.
However, the rural nature of Ridgecrest and its distance from the major metropolis appears to have significantly limited the damaged.
Kylie Jenner was among the celebrities reacting with dismay to the second earthquake in as many days.
‘These earthquakes,’ she wrote on Twitter, adding two distressed emojis.
The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco shared a video taken shortly after her home started vibrating.
‘Karl and I were out of town for the earthquake yesterday, and I just felt that one and I see our chandelier moving, and all the alcohol bottles were moving. That was weird!’ she said, visibly shaken.
Though the stars around Los Angeles felt the earthquake easily enough, people reported feeling small tremors as far away as Arizona.
The rocking earth also left pets and other animals panicking.
‘My poor dog was so scared from that earthquake just now,’ tweeted Paris Jackson. ‘It felt super small from where i’m at but she literally sprint up the stairs looking for me.’
Halsey noted the terrible timing of two major earthquakes mixed with fireworks season for local pets.
‘I feel bad for every animal thats dealing with earthquakes an fireworks this week 🙁 pls keep ur babies close. I miss min so so so much and wish I could hold him.’
Reality star Kendra Wilkinson considered drastic measures after the quake, tweeting: ‘Time to doomsday prep..’
Seismologists were quick to specify that this week’s earthquakes took place along a relatively small 10-mile long fault line north of Los Angeles, rather than the more well-known San Andreas fault that runs through much of California.
‘Wow ~ these earthquakes!’ tweeted country singer LeAnn Rimes.
‘I was meditating when it began. I must say, that’s the best state to be in when an earthquake begins.
‘By the time you realize what’s going on your so chill, you can’t freak out. Hope everyone is ok.’
Comedian Kumail Nanjiani was genuinely freaked out by the tremors, adding that he ‘Really thought it was the one.’
Competitive skier Lindsey Vonn wished well to everyone near Los Angeles.
Singer Kehlani wondered aloud if she should be concerned about the second earthquake.
‘Aye so is back to back earthquakes not hella worrisome orrrrrrr,’ she tweeted.
NSYNC member Lance Bass shared videos to his Instagram Stories of his mother-in-law’s first earthquake.
The video opened with footage of the water in her kidney-shaped pool undulating with the tremors.
He panned over to see his husband Michael Turchin and mother-in-law, who let out little screams, causing their little dog to start barking along in sympathy.
Gabrielle Union was more succinct in her complaints, writing, ‘Dude. Come on son.’
The San Diego Padres’ Twitter account decided to engage in some light trolling with the much larger city to the north.
‘7.1 magnitude #EarthquakeLA? Just roll with it.’
Ashley Tisdale also managed to find something to laugh about after the scary moment.
‘When s*** gets scary you need a laugh lol,’ she wrote, quoting another tweet featuring a picture of a single jar of coconut oil that had shimmied off a grocery store shelf.
‘We will rebuild,’ wrote the original poster.
