Apple has announced a major launch event for next Tuesday, with fans speculating that it could see the unveiling of a new Apple Watch, iPad or even the next-gen iPhone 12.
The tech giant’s website shared a new post in its upcoming event section that reads, ‘Join us from Apple Park. September 15, 2020, at 10am PDT.’
Although no indication was given about the reason for the event, Apple typically reveals the latest smartphone around this time – previous years saw launches happen on September 12.
September has been the set month for when Apple releases its next-gen iPhone, but the ongoing health crisis of the coronavirus and travel restrictions created a number of delays for the tech giant.
Some tech experts have speculated that the upcoming launch may only be for the Watch and iPad, with production delays pushing the iPhone 12 launch back until October.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president for market, shared the announcement on Twitter that included a clip of a design floating in front of a building that transformed it 9.15 – the date of the event.
The invitation is now being called an augmented reality East egg, suggesting Apple may unveil new AR technology during the virtual event.
Apple was rumored to have something great in store for the public today and the hashtag ‘#appleevent’ began trending on Twitter early Tuesday morning.
Thousands anticipated a big reveal – possibly even a product launch.
But despite the hype, fans will have to wait a little longer as the only announcement that came was that there would be a virtual event next week.
That hasn’t stopped speculation about what might be in store though.
Rumors have suggested the firm is set to release four new iPhone 12 models, including a ‘Mini’ iPhone with a 5.4-inch screen.
All four new iPhone 12 models – Pro, Pro Max, standard model and ‘Mini’ – will support 5G, according to LetsGoDigital.
The iPhone 12 Pro models are also expected to have other AR functions building on its Memoji avatar capability, which allows users to create animated versions of themselves from within the Messages app.
The round edges of the four iPhone 12 models will give way to more straight lines for a ‘whole new look’, while the phones could be getting even thinner.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max are said to be only 7.4mm, almost 10 percent thinner than the 8.1mm-thick iPhone 11 Pro Max, LetsGoDigital reports.
Face ID will receive a hardware upgrade, however, so faces will be recognized even faster, the report says.
All the iPhone 12 models will be equipped with an A14 Bionic chip processor and come with OLED displays.
They will be offered in four colors – Silver, Space Grey, Midnight Green and a new ‘Navy Blue’.
The Apple iPhone 12 is hotly anticipated and will support 5G wireless technology.
In locations where the necessary infrastructure is already established, these 5G enabled handsets will offer superior download speeds.
The development will see Apple catch up to its Android-based rivals, whose latest offerings have all featured 5G capable handsets – such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
