Users of Android and iOS devices have been warned about a new COVID Pass fraud that is sweeping the United Kingdom.
A new Covid Pass scam is sweeping the UK, and Android and iOS users have been warned. Here’s all you need to know about the latest cyber-threat.
Users of Android and iOS smartphones should be aware of a new Covid Pass fraud. This pass, which can be accessed via the NHS App and a special NHS website, is used to demonstrate proof of double vaccination or test results. When attending events or locations in the UK, as well as when traveling abroad, the pass may be required.
Cybercriminals, on the other hand, are utilizing this critical tool to aid in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic as a means of extorting personal information, money, and financial details from worried victims.
People should be wary of any messages requesting money to access the Covid Pass service, according to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cyber reporting centre.
The @ActionFraudUK account tweeted earlier this week: “Keep an eye out for COVID Pass scams.
“The NHS App is available for free. The NHS COVID Pass is available for free. The NHS will never ask for money or financial information.” In an online statement, Action Fraud revealed that scammers posing as members of the NHS are sending text messages, emails, and phone calls selling phony immunization certificates.
If you’re asking for money or financial information in exchange for access to a Covid Pass, this should raise immediate red flags.
According to Action Fraud, “Criminals are targeting the public with the NHS COVID Pass, enticing consumers to pay up money, financial information, and personal information.
“They are impersonating the NHS by sending false text messages, emails, and phone calls, as well as selling phony immunization certificates online and on social media.
“If you receive a text message or email regarding your NHS COVID Pass, be wary of links and attachments.
“Requests for money, passwords, or financial information should be ignored. Is it possible that it’s a hoax? Use the NHS COVID Pass official website.” If you want to see your Covid Pass, you can do so via the NHS smartphone app.
Keep in mind that the app you’ll need is the NHS app, which is used to schedule doctor appointments and order repeat medicines.
