This summer, experts predict ‘unprecedented’ levels of traffic on UK highways.

According to recent data, UK ROADS will witness ‘unprecedented’ levels of traffic this summer.

Drivers are planning more than 29 million staycations, according to a study undertaken by the RAC. With international vacations becoming increasingly risky this summer, many people will choose to visit the United Kingdom and see its sites.

The West Country is expected to attract almost 30% of holidaymakers, with Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset among the most popular places.

Scotland (14%) and Yorkshire (8%), as well as the Lake District and East Anglia (both 6%), are expected to attract motorists.

Staycation bookings have increased by 20% since April, with 16 million vacations planned during the school holidays alone.

While many drivers have selected which week they will vacation, over a fifth have yet to make a decision.

This could indicate that people are waiting for government updates on overseas travel in the hopes of snagging a last-minute booking abroad or even in the United Kingdom.

Rod Dennis, a spokesperson for RAC Breakdown, discussed the summer traffic forecast.

“With the school summer vacation just days away, a second ‘staycation summer’ in a row looks like a foregone conclusion, implying that millions of us will rely on our cars to bring us anywhere we want to go,” he stated.

“This summer, probably more than ever, the last thing anyone wants is a breakdown while on a well-deserved vacation.

“Busier roads, especially in the heat, can lead to an unexpected spike in breakdowns, so we’re urging everyone to double-check that their car is ‘road ready’ and won’t let them down.

“It only takes a few minutes to double-check that your tyres are correctly inflated, have plenty of tread, and aren’t damaged, and a few more minutes to double-check that your oil, coolant, and screenwash are all at the proper levels.”

According to the RAC, there’s a chance of a longer summer, since one-third of drivers say they’re still planning a UK staycation in September.

Many vacationers plan to go further this year, with more than 55 percent of survey respondents planning to travel more than 150 miles from home.
