The winner of the Golden Joystick awards for ‘greatest game ever’ isn’t what you may think.

The Ultimate Game of All Time was chosen by readers in a public poll after the Golden Joystick Awards reduced down 20 games from 1.1 million releases.

It’s time to call it a day in the struggle to determine which game is the best of all time. The Golden Joystick Awards have spoken, and the Ultimate Game of All Time has been determined.

The winner is FromSoftware’s Dark Souls, which may surprise fans of classic games like Zelda or Mario.

The game was chosen by players in a public poll, and it beat out some well-known competitors.

“In another ten years, and another ten years after that, we’ll be talking about Dark Souls. We’re told in Dark Souls that history repeats itself. But, in reality, there will almost certainly never be another game quite like it “Joe Donnelly of TechRadar opined.

Dark Souls generated an entire genre of “Souls-like” games, such as Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and even more current Assassin’s Creed games.

The following is the complete list of nominees for the Ultimate Game of All Time, listed in order of the number of votes received:

Half-Life 2, Valve’s first-person shooter from 2004, had previously won scores of prizes for ‘greatest game ever,’ but it appears that the people have spoken.

According to TechRadar, the 20 games qualifying for the Ultimate Game of All Time category were chosen from a pool of 1.1 million titles released over the last two decades.

Its members stated: “We did this by compiling a long list of several hundred titles based on existing best-of-all-time lists from Edge and Retro Gamer magazines, as well as every Ultimate Game of the Year winner from the Golden Joystick Awards (since 1983).””

This huge list was then presented to a group of industry experts, who narrowed it down to the top 20 candidates, which you can vote on in the voting module.”

Elden Ring, the latest game from the creators of ‘Dark Souls,’ will be released in February 2022. It is the company’s first attempt into open world gaming, co-written with George R. R. Martin of Game of Thrones.
