A brilliant video game is Slay the Spire. Granted, it doesn’t sound very enticing on paper to a roguelike deck builder, but in practice it’s a brilliant, addictive title that’s all about teamwork, finding the combination of golden cards that will allow you to flatten your opponents.
Attach elements that are randomly generated and you will have a game that you can play countless times. You’re in luck, if you think it sounds better like a board game: the title will be made into a physical tabletop game.
At Contention Games, a team that previously produced Imperium: The Contention, Slay the Spire: The Board Game is in the works. Interestingly, a co-op game with up to four players will be the physical adaptation, whereas the video game will be a single-player-only experience. The description on the developer’s website reads, “Create a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and eventually become strong enough to slay the Spire,” It will probably contain all the elements of the original, but we are not fully sure how everything translates into a cooperative setup.
In the spring of 2021, the board game will be published on Kickstarter, at which point there will be plenty more detail. Do you like the sound of a board game called Slay the Spire? In the comments below, play your cards correctly.
