Take-Two Boss Reckons GTA Remaster Interest Is Encouraging

Grand Theft Auto V continues to sell at unprecedented pace, despite nearing its eighth anniversary. In fact, interest in the title was at an all-time high in 2020, with many fans turning to the title during lockdown to keep them entertained. Some believe that, with no sign of Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, there could be a market for remasters of older titles in the series – and speaking as part of a financial call, Strauss Zelnick described the interest as “great and encouraging”.

As transcribed by The Motley Fool, analyst Eric Handler pointed out that “there is a huge audience of people that have probably never played Grand Theft Auto IV or any of these other prior GTA games that came up before that” and asked “what’s your perspective there in terms of thinking about remastering prior games?”

Zelnick, cagey as usual, said that it’s “great and encouraging” that the interest for older titles remains strong, but explained that “any updates on our release schedule will come from Rockstar Games”. You can play the likes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the PlayStation 5, courtesy of Sony’s abandoned PS2 Classics initiative – but other releases, like the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto IV, remained locked to the PlayStation 3. Is it a game you think Rockstar should revisit, or has the world moved on from Nico and co? Let us know in the comments section below.
