SORN restrictions are more difficult for drivers with short-term car insurance contracts.
According to experts, car insurance customers on short-term contracts may be penalized if they violate the Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) laws.
According to data from insurance provider Veyo, the number of drivers acquiring short-term insurance has increased by 181 percent in the last year. Short-term agreement drivers should apply for a SORN in between each temporary agreement, according to Veygo.
This effectively takes your automobile off the road and relieves you of any insurance or tax obligations, which is critical for individuals on a tight budget.
They do remind drivers, however, that they must remember to tax their vehicle before resuming driving.
Driving a car with a SORN on a public road, according to Veygo, might result in a £2,500 punishment.
The only option for road users to avoid paying the fee is if they are driving for specific exempt reasons.
This includes driving to or from a scheduled MOT test or garage visit.
Short-term agreements, according to Veygo CEO Gunnar Peters, might “potentially save money” for drivers in the long run.
However, he cautioned that road users must always be “conscious of the norms and regulations” when it comes to SORNs.
He went on to say that the SORN standards are “unquestionably more difficult” for individuals on short-term contracts than for those with longer coverage.
“Our data suggests that many more people are getting short-term insurance coverage for their own vehicles,” he said.
“This shows they’re seeking for choices that suit their mobility habits and, in the long run, could save them money.
“However, if drivers choose to employ numerous short-term insurance plans, they must be aware of the rules and regulations surrounding SORN.
“Because uninsured vehicles cannot be driven on the road, a SORN application must be completed in between usage.

“The long-term influence of the Covid-19 outbreak on our driving behavior yet to be seen.
“However, existing SORN norms and regulations are unquestionably more difficult for those who want to drive on a sporadic basis without being bound by long-term contracts.
“If you’re going to go with a short-term coverage rather than an annual policy, be sure your car is covered.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
