See if you qualify for NASA’s DART asteroid defense mission to help protect the Earth.
In a new mission, NASA will test experimental anti-asteroid technology, and you can now test your space knowledge and take a quiz to be a part of the mission.
The mission is known as DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test), and it could launch as early as November 23 with comet- and asteroid-deflecting technology.
Five questions about asteroids, the redirection test, and the Planetary Defense Coordination Office are asked in a quiz on NASA’s website.
Users who complete the quiz receive a digital certificate and badge that they can post on social media.
According to Space.com, the DART spacecraft was built by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Maryland and is set to launch later this month.
The craft will take off from Vandenberg’s Space Launch Complex 4 East in California on a SpaceX rocket.
In an attempt to alter the asteroid’s trajectory, the spacecraft will collide with it with great force.
Despite the fact that the asteroid it will be visiting, Didymos, a near-Earth asteroid, poses no threat to Earth, it will allow NASA’s team to assess the mission’s impact.
This technology could come in handy if the planet is ever threatened by an asteroid or other object.
You can help DART by taking this quiz.
