Razer Tests the Limits of Collectors With a $9,999 Anniversary Mouse

In an industry usually driven by performance-per-dollar, Razer is deliberately moving in the opposite direction. To mark the 20th anniversary of its Basilisk-inspired “Boomslang” legacy line, the gaming hardware company has opened pre-orders for an ultra-limited commemorative mouse that costs 9,999 yuan and is capped at 1,337 units worldwide—a number chosen to resonate with hardcore gaming culture.

Each unit carries an individually numbered serial, underscoring that this release is aimed less at mainstream gamers and more at collectors, enthusiasts, and long-time fans of the brand. Pre-orders began on February 7, according to Razer’s China announcement.

A Collector’s Object Disguised as a Gaming Peripheral

Rather than positioning the product purely as a mouse, Razer frames the anniversary edition as a display-grade collectible. It ships in a presentation-style collector’s box, complete with the mouse itself, the Razer Mouse Dock Pro, glass mouse feet, and a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, all designed to heighten the unboxing ritual.

The mouse retains the series’ ambidextrous ergonomic shape, measuring 138.4 × 81.9 × 34.5 mm and weighing approximately 110 grams. Visual cues are deliberately nostalgic: a semi-transparent shell paired with PU leather-coated buttons, a combination rarely seen in mass-market gaming peripherals.

Top-Tier Hardware, Even by Flagship Standards

Beneath its commemorative exterior, the mouse carries Razer’s most advanced components. It is equipped with the second-generation Razer Focus Pro 45K optical sensor, supporting up to 45,000 DPI, 85G acceleration, and 900 IPS tracking speed.

Click inputs rely on fourth-generation Razer optical switches, rated for a theoretical lifespan of around 100 million clicks, with no debounce delay. Wireless performance is handled by Razer HyperPolling Wireless, enabling a polling rate of up to 8,000 Hz.

The mouse also includes eight programmable buttons, nine-zone Chroma RGB lighting, and wireless charging support. Razer claims a maximum battery life of approximately 145 hours on a full charge, depending on usage conditions.

    Why This Release Matters Now

Anniversary products are common in consumer electronics, but few push scarcity and pricing this aggressively. By combining extreme limitation, premium materials, and flagship internals, Razer appears to be testing how far brand loyalty and gaming nostalgia can be monetized in the peripheral space.

At 9,999 yuan, this is not positioned as a rational purchase for competitive play. Instead, it reflects a broader shift in the gaming hardware market, where high-end peripherals increasingly blur the line between functional tools and collectible artifacts.

For most players, the specifications will eventually trickle down into more affordable models. For 1,337 buyers, however, this mouse is less about DPI or polling rates—and more about owning a small, numbered piece of Razer’s 20-year history.
