The January 2021 PlayStation Plus games were announced, kicking off the new year for Sony’s subscription service.

Users will get one PS5 title alongside two PS4 titles, as has become customary.

First up is the PS5 title of the month for January, Maneater.

For PS4, the man-eating shark simulator is also available, but this is the game’s present-gen version.

On PS4, subscribers can look forward to Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s atmospheric Lara Croft adventure and the okay, if rather repetitive, action RPG Greedfall. Of course, via backwards compatibility, both games can also be played on the PS5.

We really liked Maneater and made the game that little bit better with the enhanced presentation on the PS5. “If you’ve had your fill of the title on PS4, there’s not much to come back for. However, if you’re just diving into the game, this is the version you want.”If you’ve had your title fill on PS4, there isn’t much to come back for. “Shadow of the Tomb Raider shines at exploration, offering stunning landscape views that add to the quest of walking through the larger open world. It’s filled with rewarding puzzle-platforming tombs that emphasize the return of new and old gameplay mechanics. The same can’t be said of the story, though, as Lara’s journey is concluded with a tired and tried-and-true formula that never reaches the potential it shows in certain cutscenes, despite its promising beginning.”Shadow of the Tomb Raider shines at exploration, offering amazing views of the landscape that add to the quest to walk through the larger open world. And as for Greedfall, we thought it was the best effort of developer Spiders yet, and while it has some obvious drawbacks, we gave it a good 7/10: “Greedfall is on the cusp of something special. RPG fans will find a lot to like, but don’t expect the next masterpiece of the genre.”
On January 5 (that’s next Tuesday), all three PS Plus games for January 2021 will be available for free. What do you think about 2021’s first PlayStation Plus offering? In the comments below, tell us your honest opinion.
