In new study, a UK auto theft hotspot has been identified; is your neighborhood the most dangerous?
According to recent statistics, the highest number of car thefts per postcode has been revealed. Which part of the United Kingdom is the most dangerous for automobiles?
According to the Co-op Insurance survey, the London borough of Lambeth is the UK’s car theft capital, followed by Kensington and Chelsea. Between 2016 and 2020, Watford and Slough, both outside of London, had high rates of automobile theft.
London was home to nine of the top ten cities with the highest theft rates.
Preston, the lone Northern city in the top 20, was the epicenter of vehicle thefts in the North, coming in at number 13.
Vehicle theft claims are at their lowest level in four years in Moray, Scotland.
Mid Devon had the fewest automobile thefts in England, and Denbighshire had the fewest in Wales.
According to insurance data, there have been nearly 54,000 car crimes in London in the last six months alone.
In comparison, the Greater Birmingham area had just under 12,000 car crimes, while Sheffield and Leeds had 10,344 instances.
“Having your car stolen is one of the most unpleasant situations a person can have, and tragically, it is still something that blights everyday life, particularly in our cities,” says Paul Evans, head of automotive insurance at Co-op Insurance.
“Our claims data reveals that London’s car crime rates have remained consistently high, but it’s intriguing to note that cities like Preston and Stockport are becoming emerging hotspots in the North.
“We’re passionate about assisting car owners in keeping their vehicles safe – they can do so by researching auto crime rates in their area and taking a few basic steps to prevent a thief.
“People who own smaller, possibly less expensive cars should be aware that they are prime targets for car thieves.
“Our policies are designed to provide you peace of mind by ensuring that if the worst happens, we will assist you in getting back on the road as soon as possible.”
