Do you have a Fire TV? You can FINALLY use a function that was first introduced in the United States last summer.
AMAZON has finally given UK Fire TV users the update they’ve been waiting for for almost a year.
Yes, TikTok’s introduction on Fire TV — one of the most popular streaming platforms – means users will be able to view new videos as well as old favorites on their biggest screen. TikTok for Fire TV features specific “For You,” “Following,” and “Discover” streams, just like the smartphone version of the program.
The first tab contains video clips that TikTok’s algorithm has determined are best suited to your tastes based on your viewing history, the second tab contains only videos from creators you’ve already chosen to follow, and the third tab contains trending clips and new videos that are gaining traction across the platform.
TikTok’s growing experiment with TV-based apps is being interpreted as an effort to reach a larger audience. In comparison to the small screen, however, news site Protocol argues that these applications profit from premium prices associated with TV-based advertising. The introduction of a slew of TV apps coincides with TikTok’s foray into long-form video, which pits it against the likes of YouTube and Vimeo.
While TikTok was first available for Fire TV devices in the United States in August of last year, including set-top boxes and Smart TVs with the software pre-installed, the video app was first available on Samsung Smart TVs, Google TV, and Android TV devices in February. The latter was limited to Europe, with Samsung TV owners in the United States unable to access TikTok at this time.
“We’re pleased to offer the creativity and excitement of TikTok to Amazon’s Fire TV devices in France, Germany, and the UK,” said Rich Waterworth, General Manager, TikTok UK. The TikTok TV app for Fire TV will provide people a new way to gather together and watch videos from some of our most popular content categories on a big screen. This is a wonderful method for people to be thrilled by their favorite TikTok content together at home, whether it’s learning a new skill or just having some fun watching what you love now more than ever.”
Hopefully, all of these flaws will be ironed out, and TikTok will be available on TVs all around the world.
