Oh, the everlasting question: Will Sony release both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with God of War: Ragnarok? Our take: Gear up for a cross-gen sequel, people – but it’s all hype before Sony officially clarifies.
In a livestream this week, series creator David Jaffe did just that, but it didn’t take long for the media to pick up on his remarks and elaborate.
Oh, I’m sure the next God of War is going to come out on PS4 [and]PS5,”Oh, I’m sure the next God of War will come out for PS4 [and]PS5,” It will, of course. I mean, Jim Ryan [PlayStation CEO] said that pretty much.”Of course it will. I mean, [PlayStation CEO] Jim Ryan pretty much said exactly that.” Late last year, when asked directly about Ragnarok’s availability, he also dropped a bold “no comment”
Nonetheless, Jaffe shared his view, and while the story was circulating on the web, in his usual style, he sent out a clarifying message.
I’m sorry for the swearing in there:
What’s wrong with fuckstix, some of you!!! If the latest GOW is cross-gen, I have ZERO awareness (but come on, of course it is). Based on things Jim Ryan said in the press and the fact that I’m not a fucking fool, I voiced an opinion. ANY GOW data is not my position to share – David Jaffe (@davidscottjaffe) January 6, 2021.
Clearly, the former Sony Santa Monica guy just wanted to make his opinion known, and we’re in agreement with him. Ultimately, however, before the platform holder speaks up and clarifies which consoles you’ll be able to play God of War: Ragnarok on, this is all just informed speculation. Let’s wait, then, and see what the future announcements will bring.
