Bloober Team Working on a Horror Game with a ‘Very Famous Gaming Publisher’

Layers of Fear, Observer, and The Medium developer Bloober Team is busy working on its next horror project with the help of a “very famous gaming publisher”, GamesIndustry.biz has revealed. Detailed in a new interview with CEO Piotr Babieno, he is quoted as saying: “In fact, we’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.” Of course, the internet already reckons the game in question is Silent Hill.

If you’re not already caught up with the rumours and speculation surrounding this apparent PlayStation 5 reboot, we recommend clicking through and reading up on its backstory. Babieno obviously stops short of revealing the IP that Bloober Team is working on in secret, but as far as known horror IPs and major gaming publishers go, there’s not a lot more to choose from besides Silent Hill and Konami. Capcom isn’t going to hand its Resident Evil series to another developer, for example.

And through some internet sleuthing, fans think they’ve actually connected the dots between Bloober Team and Silent Hill.

In a GameSpot interview from May 2020, Akira Yamaoka (the man behind the soundtrack of both The Medium and Silent Hill) is quoted as saying he wants to work on the developer’s second game in production at the time.

This is the same person who had a more recent interview scrubbed from the web after they said their next game is “the one you’re hoping to hear about”. In fact, Bloober Team has always been upfront about being inspired by the classic survival horror IP. In another interview with GameSpot, The Medium producer Jacek Zieba commented on how Silent Hill 2 in particular is a major source of inspiration for the team. “Not just for The Medium, but for our company and how we create horror games. With The Medium, we see it as a love letter to the series and to Silent Hill 2.”
Is it all just one big coincidence or is Bloober Team really the studio behind the long-rumoured Silent Hill project? You decide in the comments below.
