The Ace Combat series is one that remains fairly niche despite having been around for more than two decades.
These arcadey fighter jet action games are beloved by fans for their cheesy stories and fun dogfight gameplay, and the latest iteration is no exception.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown released for PlayStation 4 (with some great PlayStation VR support) in 2019, and it’s up there with the best the series has to offer.
However, not only was the game a critical hit — it turns out it’s been a commercial hit as well.
As the game turns two years old, developer Project Aces has revealed the game has now sold more than 2.5 million copies. Kazutoki Kono, brand director of Ace Combat, added that it’s now outsold the previous best-selling game in the series — Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies — making it the new top dog.

Incidentally, the game will be receiving a free content update tomorrow (19th January) to celebrate its second anniversary.
The update will add a bunch of new skins for various aircraft, including an awesome glowing skin for the X-02S Strike Wyvern. You can see some of these for yourself in the trailer at the top of this article. You’ll also get a load of new emblems to further customise your planes.
