Ransomware assaults, according to Lindy Cameron, the head of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), are the “greatest imminent menace” to businesses in the United Kingdom. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is a division of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) in the United Kingdom.
This year saw a lot of ransomware outbreaks and other intrusions. Businesses in the United States have been the victim of several of these ransomware attacks. The Colonial Pipeline ransomware assault and the Kaseya ransomware outbreak are two examples.
Since it vanished from the internet, the Kaseya ransomware outbreak has been blamed on a Russian ransomware organization known as REvil.
Russian cyber criminals are being blamed for the majority of the ‘devastating’ attacks.
The chairman of the NCSC has accused Russian-based cyber criminal activities for the most “devastating” ransomware strikes against the UK.
According to NCSC director Lindy Cameron, who was quoted by the BBC in a story, ransomware attacks “provide the’most urgent danger’ to UK enterprises in cyberspace.”
Ransom attacks, according to the paper, are “cyberattacks in which hackers gain access to computer networks and lock the owners out until they pay a ransom.” If victims do not pay the ransom, cybercriminals frequently threaten to reveal the information they have stolen to the public.
Ransomware assaults will continue to be appealing to hackers as long as businesses and organizations are susceptible and willing to pay the requested ransom, according to the NCSC director.
Cyberattacks against the Hackney Borough Council and Ireland’s Health Service Executive were mentioned in the BBC report as examples of attacks against UK entities.
Ransomware Assaults by Russian Cybercriminal Groups2021 saw an increase in cyberattacks, with many of these attacks coming from Russian cybercriminal groups.
The Kaseya ransomware assault, which happened over the Fourth of July weekend in the United States, is an example of a cyberattack carried out by a Russian-based cybercrime group. The attack was carried out by REvil, a Russian ransomware gang that earlier attacked meat giant JBS with a similar ransomware campaign.
