A popular station on NOW TV has been dropped… You’ll have to pay to get it back.
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP STREAMING DISCOVERY SHOWS AND MOVIES, YOU’LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANOTHER DIRECT DEBIT FROM YOUR ACCOUNT EACH MONTH.
Streaming service with no contracts The popular Discovery channel has been removed from the Entertainment Membership of NOW, formerly known as NOW TV. Due to the lack of a price increase, NOW customers have lost access to the factual channel’s programmes and films. This includes on-demand programming as well as access to the live channel. The new policy took effect at the end of June 2021. Those who want to watch the latest Discovery programming will have to pay a little extra now.
NOW has reduced the cost of its Entertainment and Cinema Membership to to £9.99, as well as giving a three-month trial of Sky Sports.
The first clue that NOW customers were about to lose hours of live and on-demand entertainment came early last month, when the Discovery channel was removed from the website’s FAQ area. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Sky Q users were threatened with losing access to all Discovery-owned channels last year. The two firms did, however, establish a long-term arrangement for the channels to remain on its satellite service.
While Sky Q users can continue to watch live and on-demand programming from the channel… There was no provision for NOW in the contract between the two entertainment companies. As a result, all of Discovery’s material has been removed from NOW subscribers.
While there is no longer a method to watch Discovery Channel on NOW, there is still a way to tune-in depending on the set-top box you have at home. To do so, you’ll need to sign up for another streaming service.
Yes, Discovery recently introduced Discovery+, a streaming service that combines its live channels as well as on-demand boxsets. A free subscription tier gives you access to live channels such as Really, Quest, Quest Red, and a few others. There are also catch-up shows from the last 30 days, but not the entire on-demand library. You’ll have to pay £4.99 every month to get access to it.
Discovery+ includes access to all channels, including Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, and others, in addition to on-demand boxsets.
