ENGLAND’S draw with Hungary will drop them to fifth in the October world rankings. Gareth Southgate’s side matched the Three Lions’ highest-ever rating when they moved up to third last month. But they will be overtaken by Nations League winners France and Euro 2020 champions Italy when the next set of numbers are unveiled. Belgium, who have been top of the list for more than three years, will retain their place at the summit despite back to back defeats by France and Italy. But their advantage over second placed Brazil will drop to just 12 points if Tite’s team beat…

GARETH BALE has stepped up his recovery from injury in the hope of being fit to lead Wales towards a World Cup play-off spot. The Real Madrid star has been ruled out since suffering a serious hamstring injury in training with the Spanish giants last month. Wales boss Robert Page is optimistic his captain will be ready for November’s crunch qualifying double-header at home to Belarus and Belgium. And Real posted a picture on their website on Wednesday afternoon featuring the 32-year-old running at the club’s training ground. The sight of Bale back doing light training will be a major…

DENMARK have qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup with a 100 per cent win record, without conceding a goal and with two games to spare. The Euro 2020 semi-finalists secured their place in next year’s winter World Cup last night with a 1-0 win over Austria. Flying wing-back Joakim Maehle scored the only goal of the game to seal the three points. Denmark are sitting comfy at the top of Group F on 24 points, 27 goals scored and NONE conceded. And there’s just two group games to go, with Scotland – who sit second – seven points behind…

THIS is the shocking moment Hungarian football thugs attacked cops at Wembley on Tuesday. Police made six arrests as crowd trouble marred England’s World Cup qualifying draw – including one for voyeurism. Officers were attacked after going into the crowd to take care of a Hungarian accused of racially abusing a steward. A video clip emerged showing hooligans waded in on the police and forcing cops backwards before having to use batons in an attempt to regain control. Riot police eventually calmed the situation having been forced back under the stands, where around 1,000 visiting fans were in place. The…

TIMO Werner returned to Chelsea after shooting Germany to next year’s World Cup Finals.  But now Blues fans will get to see if the striker can be the player they thought they had signed – or return to being a pale imitation. Werner’s struggles to impose himself at Stamford Bridge since his £47m arrival, both under Frank Lampard and then Thomas Tuchel, have been painful to watch. The fleet-footed goal machine of his days in the Bundesliga with Leipzig has appeared at times a mirage. Instead, Chelsea fans have seen a striker whose efforts to stay onside have been close…

As Fifa implements unprecedented measures, Chelsea star Mason Mount becomes one of the first footballers to BACK the World Cup every two years. MASON MOUNT is one of the first current talents to BACK plans for a summer tournament. After playing in Belgium’s Nations League third-place loss to Italy, Thibaut Courtois, a former Chelsea goalkeeper, blamed Fifa and Uefa for the increasing expectations on players. However, with Fifa moving through with Arsene Wenger’s idea for a Global Cup every two years, and a vote of the world body’s 211 member nations likely in December, Blues and England schemer Mount had…
