WWE champion Drew McIntyre wants epic match with John Cena and claims rival Randy Orton ‘is on another level’

WWE champion Drew McIntyre has admitted that he would relish a historic title match with John Cena.

Cena, a 16-time world champion, last appeared in Vince McMahon’s company in a losing effort to Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36.

That same night McIntyre made history when he pinned Brock Lesnar to become the first-ever British wrestler to hold WWE’s top belt.

Cena meanwhile hasn’t been the company’s top guy since he beat AJ Styles to tie Ric Flair for the most world title reigns back in 2017.

Hollywood success permitting, many fans expect the 43-year-old to eventually return to WWE to break the historic record.

And when asked for his reaction to Cena coming back to challenge for the gold, current champion McIntyre claimed he’d welcome the match.

He told SunSport: “I would say ‘you’re the one I want to beat’. I want that name on my list.

“It’d be a heck of a match.”

The Scottish Psychopath has fought his way to become WWE’s top guy after originally being released in 2014.

The 35-year-old – real name Andrew McLean Galloway – was in tears as he became the first British wrestler to win the Royal Rumble in January.

McIntyre’s rise to the top can be summed up by the news he is the No1 card in the WWE’s new Slam Attax Reloaded game.

He now faces the biggest threat to his WWE title at SummerSlam when he comes up against Randy Orton.

The Viper has been hailed for producing some of his career-best work during the Empty Arena Era and McIntyre claimed his opponent was among the greatest of all time.

He told SunSport: “He’s been on a different level for the past few months, got himself an edge.

“We’re really doing some cool stuff and there was so much truth involved and I think the best storylines are based in truth and right now Randy’s really stepped up.

“Randy not trying is not the best in the world or Randy all about himself or when you know he’s not trying, to everyone else it will make it will look like this guy’s incredible.

“But right now he’s on fire he’s giving it everything and the fact that I’m getting to go up against him now and really test myself.

“If I can step up to the top-level Randy Orton, like I felt pretty good about last week and again, a lot of it’s based on truth, then I’m doing something right.

“And I tend to be not just one of the best in the company, one of the best of all time. I want to be the best in the company, and the best of all time.

“I set my goals really high and I consider Randy Orton one of the best of all time, certainly one of the best, if not the best, in the company, and I want to step up to his level. And I want to step above his level.”
