With the ‘ideal’ Jurgen Klopp transfer, Liverpool must ‘double down’ like Sir Alex Ferguson.
The summer transfer season was quiet at Anfield, with Ibrahima Konate being the lone newcomer.
As Joe Cole identifies the “ideal” target for Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool must follow Sir Alex Ferguson’s lead in the summer market. While Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea all spent a lot of money this summer to enhance their squads, Liverpool focused on reducing theirs.
Along with Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson, and Marko Grujic, Georginio Wijnaldum was the most high-profile player to depart Liverpool.
The money raised from player sales and loan exits comes close to matching the £36 million paid to RB Leipzig for Ibrahima Konate.
Following last season’s injury issue, the No. 1 objective was to bring in another top-tier centre-back alternative.
Many were astonished, though, that Liverpool did not follow in their competitors’ footsteps and improve further up the pitch.
Liverpool has consistently declared that they are unable to compete with Europe’s wealthiest teams, particularly in light of the financial consequences of the coronavirus outbreak.
Harvey Elliott was entrusted with the task of replacing Wijnaldum, and he performed admirably at the start of the season before suffering a devastating injury against Leeds.
In the forward positions, Klopp has four world-class options, with Mohamed Salah probably being one of the top players in Europe at the moment.
With that much firepower, any club can launch a credible title push.
However, history says that teams must continue to adapt by bringing in new members in order to have the best chance of repeating their success.
Sir Alex Ferguson, a United legend, would routinely delve into the market to bring in the greatest players to Old Trafford, which helped them establish themselves as England’s most successful club.
Cole, who joined Liverpool in 2010 and left in 2013, feels Klopp should pursue a similar path.
The German coach has been hesitant to make any changes to the team that won the Champions League in 2019.
Cole, on the other hand, believes that Juventus player Federico Chiesa would be an excellent addition to Klopp’s squad.
“For Liverpool, it’s been a mixed summer,” he told Coral.
“I was astonished they didn’t go out and hire a big name.
“It’s similar to what Sir Alex Ferguson did when they won trophies.”
“They’d go back and double down, bringing in someone who might upset some feathers.
“Brinkwire Summary News” says, “Someone like Chiesa is.”
