With comments from Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Helmut Marko shuts down Ferrari.

The 2022 Drivers’ Championship is expected to be contested by LEWIS HAMILTON and Max Verstappen.

Red Bull boss Helmut Marko has dismissed suggestions that Ferrari will be a major player in the 2022 season, claiming that only Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are in contention for the title.

The new F1 rules are supposed to bring the field closer together and eliminate the possibility of a clear winner.

Ferrari believes Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will have a better chance than in recent years of beating Hamilton and Verstappen.

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto recently stated, “The new regulations are a clear opportunity.”

“The goal is to be competitive, and being competitive means being in a position to win races.”

“Does that mean we’ll be able to compete for the championship? The gap is still wide today.”

“However, as Ferrari, it is in our DNA to be capable of fighting for pole and victory in at least some races.”

Marko, on the other hand, believes that at the front of the grid, only two clear teams will be in contention.

Marko told Auto Motor und Sport, “Mercedes and we have the potential, the people, and the continuity.”

“This demonstrates the importance of a high-level fight.”

Particularly since [Lewis] Hamilton and [Max] Verstappen are the only other drivers.”

Hamilton is expected to return with a vengeance, aiming to break the world title record he shares with Michael Schumacher.

Marko, on the other hand, is determined to build on Verstappen’s success.

“The stated goal is to win the World Championship,” Marko added.

“You can never be sure with such a significant rule change.”

Meanwhile, Binotto believes that at the start of the 2022 season, there will be a significant difference between the teams.

“There will be a difference in competitiveness between the cars at the start of next year, maybe at the start of the season,” he said, “because of the way each team may have interpreted the rules and solutions you may bring.”

“As a Ferrari, it’s critical to be able to recognize and address flaws as quickly as possible.

“How the team reacts will be crucial.”
