With James Ward-Prowse suspended, Youri Tielemans is ready to take over as the Premier League’s most consistent appearance maker.
JAMES WARD-PROWSE has appeared in 102 straight Premier League games for Southampton, the first of which was in December of last year.
However, the midfielder’s hot streak came to an end in the Saints’ 1-0 loss against European champions Chelsea on the road.
Ward-Prowse was sent off just over a quarter of an hour after scoring the equalizer from the penalty spot for Southampton.
Ward-Prowse was originally given a yellow card for a late challenge on Blues midfielder Jorginho by referee Martin Atkinson.
Atkinson, however, brandished a red card after being asked to go check the incident on the VAR monitor.
Chelsea took advantage of their one-man advantage and went on to win the game by scoring two more goals.
Following Ward-suspension, Prowse’s Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans will take over as the outfield player with the most consecutive Premier League appearances.
Since New Year’s Day last year, the Belgian midfielder hasn’t missed a single game for the Foxes due to suspension or injury.

Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek of West Ham United aren’t far behind Tielemans’ 63-game winning streak.
The Hammers’ fitness freaks have won 58 and 55 games in a row.
Soucek, a goal-scoring midfielder, has also travelled the highest distance in the Premier League this season, at 80.7 kilometers.
