With a fourth-round win, Ashleigh Barty sets up a potential Wimbledon confrontation with Emma Raducanu.
On ‘Manic Monday,’ Ashleigh Barty was in fine form as she defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round at Wimbledon.
With a great effort against Barbora Krejcikova, Ashleigh Barty advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals, setting up a potential encounter against Britain’s Emma Raducanu. With only three of the top-10 players remaining in the draw moving into the second week, the women’s draw has been blown wide open.
Despite never having advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon, Barty entered the tournament as a heavy favorite.
Krejcikova, who came into Wimbledon in excellent form after winning the 2021 French Open, stood in her way.
Despite a stumbling block at the start, the Australian tennis star was too much for the No 14 seed.
Early in the opening set, Krejcikova broke Barty’s serve and went on to take a 3-1 lead.
Barty was having trouble finding her stride and was nearly a double break down at 4-2, only to cling on and break back in the next game.
The momentum had shifted in favor of the 2019 French Open champion, and she eventually seized a one-set lead.
With both players suffering on their serves, Krejcikova pushed Barty hard in the second set to force a decider.
Barty, on the other hand, came through when it mattered most, securing the victory with just one match-point opportunity.
