As Real Madrid gets ready to give up the La Liga title to fierce rivals Barcelona in next week’s El Clasico, supporters have shown their rage over the signing of sensation Kylian Mbappe.
The Catalan powerhouses lead the Spanish top division by 11 points, and Real Madrid unintentionally crowned their long-time rivals this weekend only by avoiding a tie with Espanyol.
Even though Mbappe is out due to a muscular problem in his left leg, Los Blancos’ supporters are furious with the France captain as they prepare for just their second trophyless season since 2009–10.
The World Cup winner chose to travel to Sardinia with his girlfriend, Spanish actress Ester Exposito, rather than watch the Espanyol match from the sidelines. There, they were photographed lounging on a yacht.
According to AS, supporters started showering X with images on social media that were labelled “fuera” or “Mbappe out,” and even his teammates felt that his choice to take a vacation at this point in the season had alienated him from the locker room.
Despite Mbappe’s return to training on Monday, there is reportedly “incomprehension” in Spain regarding his trip to Italy.
While Real Madrid played Espanyol this weekend, Kylian Mbappe and his girlfriend Ester Exposito took a plane to Sardinia.
The captain of the French national team chose to hang out with the actress on the sidelines.
On the outside, though, Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa was eager to defend his star, claiming that Mbappe had adhered to protocol following the team’s 2-0 triumph over the weekend.
“Real Madrid’s medical staff always oversees all planning regarding injured players, determining when they need to go to Valdebebas and when they don’t,” he stated. Like any other player, Mbappe is free to do anything he wants in his spare time.
However, according to L’Equipe, Mbappe’s teammates were nonetheless irritated by his lack of discretion during a difficult period in the campaign, regardless of whether it was approved or not.
The French daily claims that since moving from Paris Saint-Germain to the Spanish metropolis in 2024, Mbappe is already thought to be getting special treatment.
It is also believed that he was “overly individualistic” due to his decision to spend practically all of his time with his fellow Frenchmen on the team and instances like arriving late for a team lunch.
Emmanuel Petit, a former star for the French national team, accused Mbappe of “filling Real Madrid’s dressing room with selfishness,” according to a Daily Mail Sport story from last month.
Mbappe’s spontaneous vacation coincides with Real Madrid’s potential loss to rivals Barcelona in La Liga.
It is thought that the 27-year-old and his girlfriend started dating at the start of 2026.
Two weeks ago, Mbappe liked and disliked a graphic that connected Jose Mourinho to the summer permanent managing position at his club, which may have caused more strife.
Interim manager Arbeloa responded, “I’m indifferent to whether Mbappe likes Mourinho, Julia Roberts, or anyone else,” when asked about his star player’s social media move.
Mbappe and Exposito were photographed in Paris, the former’s previous hometown, during Fashion Week in the French capital in March. It is thought that the two have been dating since the beginning of this year.
