After Manchester City faltered in the race for the championship, Wayne Rooney has shown himself to be an expert at making Premier League predictions.
Monday night’s thrilling 3-3 tie between Pep Guardiola’s team and Everton dealt a serious setback to their chances of winning the top division.
With three weeks left, they are now five points behind Arsenal after the outcome, which saw them rally from a 3-1 deficit late on following a terrible 13-minute collapse.
And after City defeated the Gunners 2-1 at the Etihad in what many considered to be a pivotal afternoon, it is exactly what Manchester United star Rooney predicted last month.
After that game, Rooney was asked on Match of the Day for his title predictions, and he responded, “I think it’ll be tight.” These are favourable games for Arsenal, and I believe they will win every one of them, while City’s games are a little trickier. “I think Everton might take a couple of points off them.”

So far, Wayne Rooney’s forecasts for the championship race have been quite accurate.
After giving up a 1-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Everton, Manchester City was devastated.
Arsenal has won both of their games against Newcastle and Fulham since Rooney’s predictions, while City defeated Burnley before losing to the Toffees on Monday night.
Danny Murphy, a fellow analyst who had projected that both teams would win every game, has already lost to Rooney.
“I just think they’re both going to be so focused now,” Murphy had remarked. These two formidable teams don’t only rely on an XI; they have a wide range of quality.
“I believe they will win every game, and the outcome will depend on goal differential.”
Rooney has also called on Arsenal supporters to fully support their team throughout his championship race forecast.
“The fans have a significant role to play,” he continued. “They were great against Real Madrid, but they were terrible against PSG, as I mentioned last season.
They were jeering the players off the field during the most recent game against Bournemouth. They are Arsenal supporters and have led the league all season. I don’t want Man City to win the league; I want Arsenal to. Fans of Arsenal must support the team.
“Yeah, but they’ve got to show the players… the players will be nervous as well,” Rooney said in response to Mark Chapman’s question on if he could relate to the fans’ anxiety.
They must demonstrate to the players their solidarity and support. I am aware that they do, but when they are jeering them after winning the league and making it to the Champions League semifinals,
City has four games left, while Arsenal’s final three are against West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.
Guardiola’s team will take on Brentford, Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa in an attempt to prevent the Gunners from capturing their first championship since 2004.
