Transfer news LIVE: Manchester City ‘offer stunning deal to Barcelona for superstar Lionel Messi’

Barcelona would need to free up funds to make an offer for the Dutchman this summer as the club are still struggling financially because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Koeman has always got the best out of Wijnaldum at international level. The midfielder scored eight goals in nine appearances for Holland in 2019 and the uncertainty around his future at Anfield means all options remain open.

Chelsea have completed the signing of one of the big names in world football with Thiago Silva joining on a one-year contract, with the club having the option of a further 12 months.

His signing follows the addition on Wednesday of Ben Chilwell to the squad and continues the long tradition of top Brazilian players gracing the pitch for Chelsea.

There are a number of rivals in the frame headed by Leicester City, whose manager Brendan Rodgers signed the 22-year-old for Celtic from Paris St Germain.

Leicester would be in a stronger financial position than Everton, having sold Ben Chilwell to Chelsea for £45million earlier this week.

Lazio have reportedly pledged to Milinkovic-Savic that he can depart the Stadio Olimpico if the right offer comes in for him.

The Serbia international is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2024, and has previously attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League.

The promising youngster scored 12 goals in 14 appearances for England’s Under 17’s and was part of the squad that competed at the European Championships in 2019.

The forward posted a farewell message to Arsenal on Instagram, thanking the club and its supporters for his time there.

Eberechi Eze has signed a five-year contract with Crystal Palace F.C., becoming the club’s second arrival of the summer 2020 transfer window.

South London born Eze, 22, has risen through the ranks at Queens Park Rangers after joining them in 2016.

They have decided to sell for a nominal fee but included a large sell-on percentage in the deal, understood to be around 30 percent.

Barnsley, Ipswich Town and Wimbledon had all made enquiries for the young left-sided centre back but he has opted to link up again with manager Darren Moore.

City are cautiously optimistic about their chances of striking a deal to land the 33-year-old but sources were calling for calm and patience – particularly given the legal minefield surrounding Messi’s potential departure and the clear disagreements.

Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that the upscaling of existing commercial contracts, by implementing a ‘Messi tax’ if brands wanted the Argentine associated with their product, would go some way to making the switch financially viable.

Koeman is looking to carry out a major summer overhaul following the humiliating Champions League exit to Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Suarez – who is Barcelona’s third highest goalscorer of all time – and Messi have been close friends since the striker moved from Liverpool in 2014.

Sportsmail understands the two have already been in contact over the phone about moving to the Etihad, even discussing how Messi could settle in England and learn the language after almost 20 years in Spain.

With two of Barca’s transfer targets added to the deal, City’s chances of closing a deal have rocketed.
