Tottenham could succeed where Liverpool failed with PSG ‘transfer talks planned’.

Tottenham are poised to go after a former Liverpool transfer target in 2022.

Tottenham could be the latest Premier League heavy hitter to make a move for PSG striker Mauro Icardi. Liverpool tried and failed to convert their interest into a concrete move two years ago, although a number of factors point towards the notion that Spurs could be more successful this time round.

Icardi has recently spent a lot of time on the PSG bench, and that is set to continue with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Neymar completing their star-studded attack.

Given that the Parisians have assembled one of the most formidable attacking forces in football history, at least on paper, Icardi may find chances hard to come by this campaign.

According to CalcioMercato, Spurs are poised to offer him a way out at the end of the season.

Icardi has established himself as something of a problem player during his up-and-down career, but having been through prolific spells it is no surprise that Italian giants Juventus are also mentioned.

Tottenham were heavily linked to numerous top strikers in the summer, including Lautaro Martinez, so it would be no surprise to see them venture back out into the market.

At the time, the north London side claimed that any striker would be to partner Harry Kane, although the possibility of his departure remains on the table.

Bringing in someone like Icardi, who has notched more than 20 league goals on three separate occasions during his career, would surely not be with the intention of rooting him to the bench.

Even if Kane did make way, the Argentine would not be simple to land.

Liverpool tried and failed to sign him from Inter Milan in 2019, before he eventually joined PSG on loan which turned into a permanent deal.

Back then, a report from 90min indicated that Icardi was keen to join a big Premier League side, so Spurs could have some pulling power if they tried their luck in 2022.

With his contract due to expire in 2024, PSG are under no immediate pressure to sell, although they could be open to letting him leave for the right offer due to his status primarily as an option from the bench.

Mbappe’s situation could also play its part,. “Brinkwire Summary News”.
