Tottenham and Sevilla had a ‘transfer agreement’ for Jules Kounde, but a blockage was causing problems.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Fabio Paratici has made direct contact with Sevilla in an attempt to sign Jules Kounde.
Tottenham’s primary transfer target this summer is Jules Kounde, and Fabio Paratici is said to have signed an agreement with Sevilla. Nuno Espirito Santo just has a few weeks until the Premier League season kicks off on August 15 against defending champions Manchester City.
Between now and then, Paratici will be entrusted with helping Espirito Santo improve his squad, and there are expected to be at least two new additions after deals for Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini were agreed.
Spurs, on the other hand, are anticipated to make more additions, as they are in desperate need of improvement in several areas.
After Jose Mourinho struggled to identify a consistent defensive partnership last season, signing at least one centre-back is considered as a high priority at the club.
Davinson Sanchez appears to have been made available for trade if the appropriate offer comes along, while Eric Dier, Toby Aldereireld, and Joe Rodon are all in contention to be the team’s regular starter next season.
And, as a three-man defensive unit was Espirito Santo’s preferred formation at Wolves, it’s possible he’ll try to recreate it at Tottenham.
But, in order to implement that approach at Tottenham, he’ll need greater defensive cover, and Kounde appears to be the best option.
Spurs have been in frequent contact with Sevilla about a move for the Frenchman, according to The Athletic.
In reality, talks about signing Kounde came before any talks about signing Gil.
Paratici and Sevilla sporting director Monchi are said to have reached a ‘agreement’ over a deal for Kounde to relocate to north London.
Monchi is eager to trade Kounde this summer, and Spurs were willing to add Sanchez in such transaction, which Sevilla accepted.
However, according to the report, Kounde himself rejected down a move to Tottenham.
The highly-rated 22-year-old would love to stay at a Champions League club, with Real Madrid apparently being his top choice.
Tottenham will very certainly have to abandon their bid to sign Kounde.
According to the article, Paratici has chosen Cristian Romero as his preferred replacement.
The 23-year-old has had a tremendous year, being awarded the best defender in Serie A last season and playing a key role in Argentina’s victory. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
