Tom Grennan, who had previously claimed to be a supporter of Man United and Luton, has been accused of glory-hunting and jumping on the bandwagon after celebrating Coventry City’s promotion.
Speaking to Sky Sports News about his passion for the team, the English singer-songwriter took center stage in the celebratory celebrations that followed Coventry’s promotion.
In addition, he gave a performance at Monday’s Coventry City parade, where supporters let wild after Frank Lampard’s team was promoted to the Premier League.
“I’ve always had that link to Coventry because my grandma is from Coventry,” he stated in a live TV interview. “I went to my first Coventry match at the Ricoh in 2016 and fell in love with it.”
Coventry was in League One at the time, but this was like League Two football, and I could see how important the football team was to the locals. Even though the game wasn’t the best, I could feel the community’s energy and optimism. It gave me chills and made me fall in love. Just thinking about it gives me chills.
It simply seemed like this was my club and the squad I ought to cheer for. And it made sense because my grandmother is from Cov. Since then, I haven’t looked back.

Tom Grennan’s prior claims to be a Man United supporter were promptly brought up by fans.
However, Grennan had previously claimed to be a Man United supporter, as many fans on the internet quickly pointed out.
He spoke with the club’s official website back in 2018 as part of their “My United” series, where interviewees discussed their enthusiasm for the team.
“It’s always been drilled into me,” he remarked. When I was a baby, I was given a Man United babygro, and I grew up with it. Many of my Irish relatives are ardent United supporters.
I was forced to watch DVDs of previous United games and TV matches by all of my cousins. I’m not sure what it is, but the Manchester United badge has always appealed to me. Perhaps I prefer the devil on it!
He responded, “I would probably say Paul Scholes,” when asked about his favourite player. He had a huge impact on me. A fantastic player. He simply kept the entire midfield cohesive. He was great both on and off the ball. He had a powerful ability to crush the ball. He had the ability to make goals, score goals, and move like a ghost over the pitch.
“I used to be enthralled with watching players when I was a young football player, and I tried to learn from him.”
However, he has also mentioned his connections with Luton, thus United aren’t the only team he supports.
One fan commented on X, “What happened to the big Luton Town fan?” when he declared his loyalty to United.
“Played for Luton, always look for the results, my second team x,” Grennan retorted.
Grennan gave a performance on Monday afternoon at the Coventry City title celebration.
Additionally, he stated that Luton Town, not the recently promoted Coventry City, was his second team in 2020.
Before turning his focus to music as a child, Grennan studied under Luton.
“As a football player, I just wasn’t getting better, so I didn’t regret it (stopping playing),” he said.
Really, I just stopped loving it. I found beer and females! At that moment, I hung up my boots and focused on the music.
Since then, he has established a lucrative career as a musician, and Sky Sports used his song “Found What I’ve Been Looking For” as their opening theme.
Grennan’s apparent lack of team loyalty has drawn criticism in a number of online comments.
“Mad innit, never heard a peep from him about them prior,” one person remarked. After Man United is demoted next year, I’ll probably become a fan once more.
Another person wrote: “How can anyone take Tom Grennan seriously when he supports three teams?” He has been cited as a supporter of Coventry, Luton, and Manchester United. Very strange.
Another remarked, “My Nan supports Coventry, giving the old “I have an Irish Granny” new meaning.”
