Timo Werner is on the ground in London, flying in to watch his new Chelsea team-mates face Wolves after his £53m west London move from RB Leipzig.
The German goal threat follows fellow summer signing Hakim Ziyech in travelling to London this month, hoping to see the Blues clinch a Champions League spot in their final game of the season.
Werner posted to Instagram with the caption ‘Landed in… Guess where?’ as he posed on an airport runway before making his way to Stamford Bridge to the game.
The in-demand forward will feel vindicated in his decision to join Frank Lampard’s men if they secure a top-four spot, with the Blues needing either a win or a Leicester defeat to Manchester United for qualification.
Werner left Leipzig as their all-time top goalscorer after a sensational season, seeing the Bundesliga side finish third thanks largely to their talisman’s 28 goals in 34 league games.
Lampard will expect similar totals to help propel Chelsea back towards a title challenge next season after the Stamford Bridge hierarchy moved quickly to snap up Werner on a five-year deal worth £175,000 a week.
The Blues are building a formidable squad for next season, with Ziyech’s £37m move from Ajax looking set to be backed up by a £90m swoop for Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz – taking the summer spending to over £170m.
Though stars like N’Golo Kante, Willian and Ross Barkley could depart to raise funds and free-up the wage bill, the Blues’ attack looks set to shine in 2020-21.
