Three Barcelona players could gain from Lionel Messi’s departure.

In Messi’s absence, three Barcelona attackers in particular could thrive.

Lionel Messi departed Barcelona this summer after 21 years with the club, and he is currently the hottest free agent in sports history. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is supposedly on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Ronald Koeman’s assault with an unimaginable emptiness.

Messi’s prominence as Barcelona’s poster boy and widely regarded as the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) made his departure unimaginable.

The Blaugrana, on the other hand, no longer have the icon who has been their right-wing and centre-forward for years.

It’s not all bad, though, because his absence will pave the way for another superstar to take his position.

Four Barcelona players could gain from Messi’s upcoming move to Paris, according to Express Sport.

In Messi’s absence, Ousmane Dembele may have the chance to take over the right side of the attack.

He has failed to make more than 20 La Liga starts in a single season since arriving for £135 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Of course, injuries played a part, but Messi’s untouchable status didn’t help matters.

If he can stay injury-free this season, Dembele might secure his place in the Barcelona lineup as the right striker or right attacker in Koeman’s three-at-back formation.

Antoine Griezmann was a regular under Koeman last season, but he failed to light up Camp Nou for the second year in a row after arriving for £107 million in 2019.

Griezmann’s left-footedness precludes him from playing as a left-winger or a left-sided striker.

Now that Messi is no longer on the field, Griezmann will have the opportunity to cut into his strong foot from the right flank, with Memphis Depay likely to make the move on the left.

At Atletico Madrid and in France, he thrived on the right side of the attack, so his impending transition to the position should delight Barca supporters.

Memphis would have like to have played alongside Messi at Barcelona, most likely on the left flank.

However, in the past, top-tier strikers such as Neymar have battled to break free from Messi’s shadow at the club.

Memphis has an opportunity to become the star of this Barcelona club now that the Argentine ace has left.

Fans will surely begin to regard him as Koeman’s primary man if he gets off to a solid start alongside Griezmann this season.
