The fact that Erling Haaland chose Real Madrid over Manchester City is bad news for Arsenal.
ERLING HAALAND is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, with Manchester City reportedly interested.
Erling Haaland’s reported £68 million release clause becomes active in the summer, with many clubs vying for his signature, including Real Madrid and Manchester City.
However, if Haaland decides to join Real Madrid, City, who are in need of a striker after the departure of Sergio Aguero in July, could make a move for Dusan Vlahovic or Alexander Isak, which could disrupt Arsenal’s plans.
After joining the German club for £20 million from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, Haaland has scored 76 goals in just 74 games.
He has developed into one of the best goal scorers on the continent, scoring 19 goals in only 15 games this season, something he threatened to do even when he was at Salzburg.
Real Madrid, City, Man United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich have all expressed interest in the Norwegian due to his outstanding technical ability.
Given his age and the goals and professionalism he has demonstrated thus far in his brief but successful career, his £68 million release clause is a significant bargain in the current market.
However, if the youngster chooses Real Madrid, as reports suggest, City manager Pep Guardiola will be forced to look elsewhere for a striker to complete his team.
And there’s word that he’s interested in Isak and Vlahovic, according to reports.
However, a move for either would have an impact on Arsenal’s transfer plans.
Given that Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts expire in the summer, the Gunners are in desperate need of a striker.
Lacazette, 30, joined Arsenal in July 2017 for a then-club-record £52 million fee.
In terms of individual achievements, his five years at the club have been relatively successful, with 53 league goals in only 143 Premier League games.
And, with Nketiah’s contract set to expire after the youngster made it clear that he wants to play first-team football, the Gunners must begin planning for the future.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s decline isn’t helping their case, with the Gabonese international reportedly free to find a new club after being stripped of his captaincy in December due to a slew of disciplinary issues.
Fiorentina is reportedly seeking a fee of £70 million for Serbian wonderkid Vlahovic.
