Sheffield United have made enquiries over a £16.5million deal for Brentford striker Neal Maupay.
The prolific 22-year-old, who scored 28 goals last season, has also had interest from Aston Villa and Burnley.
Following their promotion from the Championship, the Blades have already signed four players this summer.
Teenage goalkeeper Christopher Farrugia was the first to arrive, from Floriana in Malta.
Attacking midfielder Luke Freeman, 27, then joined from QPR, before former skipper Phil Jagielka returned on a free transfer after his Everton contract expired.
Signing No 4 was Ashton Hall from non-League Matlock Town.
Despite their busy summer of signings, United are the bookmakers’ favourites to be relegated.
