Outgoing Chelsea winger Willian had a video call with Arsenal defender and ex-Blues team-mate David Luiz on the day he left Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old winger announced his Chelsea departure on Sunday with a heartfelt message to the west London club’s supporters after seven years of service.
Willian is expected to sign a three-year deal at London rivals Arsenal, where Luiz currently plays having moved to the Gunners from Chelsea 12 months ago last week.
And footage from the Brazilian defender’s Instagram story shows the pair had a catch-up on Willian’s birthday – with Luiz captioning the image, ‘Always Together’.
Willian and Luiz first played together at Chelsea in 2013, following the winger’s arrival from Anzhi Makhachkala, but Luiz left Stamford Bridge one season later to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
The pair were reunited when Luiz returned to west London in 2016 and played alongside each other until the defender moved across London to Arsenal last summer.
And Willian is close to joining Luiz at the Emirates Stadium where he is set to earn around £100,000-a-week.
Both Willian and Luiz are also mainstays of the Brazilian national team, earning 70 and 57 caps for El Selecao respectively.
Chelsea wanted to keep Willian, but club director Marina Granovskaia was only prepared to offer the 32-year-old a two-year deal, which the Brazilian rejected.
This prompted the winger to search for a new club, with Mikel Arteta’s FA Cup winners set to snap up their first signing of the summer transfer window.
