Ross County have confirmed that Ross Stewart has joined League One side Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

After two-and-a-half years at the Global Energy Stadium, Stewart scored 28 goals in 82 appearances for the Staggies.

The forward played a vital part in the Championship and Challenge Cup winning campaign in 2019 as well as both Premiership campaigns in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

A County club statement read: “Over the recent transfer windows, Ross had been subject to much transfer speculation, which is a credit to how well he has performed for our club.

“Ross’ performances also made him a fans favourite and he will always be remembered for his time & achievements here in Dingwall.

“Everybody at the club wishes Ross success in his next chapter, and we look forward to watching him go from strength to strength.”

After moving to Wearside, Stewart said: “I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. When the opportunity came to come to Sunderland, I just wanted to get it done as soon as I could. I will give one hundred percent in every game; I’m a very committed and hard-working player, and as a striker, hopefully I can bring a lot of goals to the club as well.”

Sunderland boss Lee Johnson added: “I think Ross is a player that will be great for us in the short term, but he can also develop and improve over the long term. He’s at a good age, he’s very fit and quick, and he obviously has good height as well, so he has all attributes to succeed. We are very pleased to welcome him to the club.”
