Romelu Lukaku has been set a deadline by Chelsea to make his second appearance in the UEFA Super Cup.
After agreeing on a fee with Inter Milan, Chelsea hope to conclude a deal for Romelu Lukaku this week.
After agreeing to a rumoured £97 million cost with Inter Milan, Chelsea are expected to welcome Romelu Lukaku back to the club this week, and there’s a chance he’ll make his second appearance in the Super Cup against Villarreal on Wednesday. After Thomas Tuchel’s side struggled for goals in the second half of last season, the Blues have been seeking for a striker all summer.
Despite playing little under Tuchel, Tammy Abraham was the club’s equal highest scorer with 12 goals in all competitions.
Chelsea’s first aim this summer has been to get a true striker, and Erling Haaland was the first name on the list.
However, after learning that Inter Milan was open to bids, they have focused their efforts on bringing Lukaku back to the club.
The two teams have already agreed on a cost, and a medical is apparently already underway in Italy.
Tuchel will be desperate to have Lukaku back to him as soon as possible, especially given the club’s difficult start to the season, which includes away games against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
On Saturday, they face Crystal Palace at home in their first Premier League match.
Chelsea’s first competitive match of the season is against Villarreal in the UEFA Cup on Wednesday.
The Blues have chosen their team for the European tie, but players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley have been left out.
Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, and N’Golo Kante are among the first-team regulars who will go to Northern Ireland for the match.
Lukaku, on the other hand, might be included in the team if the trade is completed in time.
Chelsea has until 11 p.m. on Tuesday to make any changes to their Super Cup roster, according to UEFA regulations.
Chelsea now has a limited window to complete Lukaku’s transfer and have him link up with his new teammates in Northern Ireland.
Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, and Lucas Bergstrom are the goalkeepers.
Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Ethan Ampadu, Antonio Rudiger, Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri, Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Ethan Ampadu, Antonio Rudiger, Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alons
