Rio Ferdinand has praised Kylian Mbappe, describing the Paris Saint-Germain star as the ‘nearest thing we’ve seen’ to Brazil legend Ronaldo.
Ferdinand added that only Michael Owen, who excelled as he burst onto the scene at Liverpool, has made a similar impact in world football as a teenager.
Mbappe has frequently impressed for PSG and at the age of 21 is already well established as one of the game’s standout stars.
Ferdinand said that Mbappe gives you goosebumps before the game has even started.
Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: ‘He’s the nearest thing we’ve seen to Ronaldo. In terms of impact on the world scene as a teenager, Michael Owen is on a level.
‘He makes you feel like a kid again watching football. He makes you get goosebumps before he’s even kicked a ball.’
Mbappe has already won the World Cup with France and has won the Ligue 1 title four times.
The next step for the hugely talented forward is to win the Champions League, with Mbappe having made a major impact in the competition this season.
This season Mbappe has mustered 30 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions, while he has also demonstrated that there is more to his game than just goals.
With his pace and flair Mbappe is capable of causing numerous problems for opposing defenders and it is anticipated that he will continue to thrive for many years to come.
As Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo near the end of their careers, Mbappe could well be the individual to seize the mantle of being the best player in the world.
