Raphael Varane’s massive wage demand at Manchester United and where he sits among the Old Trafford stars

Raphael Varane is growing closer to becoming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s next summer acquisition, but it will require a substantial spend from Manchester United.

If Raphael Varane joins Manchester United from Real Madrid this summer, he is expected to demand huge salaries. As he enters the final year of his contract, the Frenchman is getting closer to leaving Los Blancos.

Varane has told the La Liga giants that he is ready for a new challenge after negotiations over a new contract have broken down.

The Red Devils are the frontrunners to sign him from Real Madrid, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks a new defensive partner for Harry Maguire.

Varane is the guy Solskjaer wants for the job, and the two teams are close to agreeing on a fee.

If a valuation is agreed upon, the move should be completed quickly, as personal terms have already been agreed upon.

Varane is poised to receive a significant wage raise as part of those terms, making him United’s fifth-highest paid player.

Varane will be paid £10.3 million per year to join Manchester United, according to Sport, a pay boost of more than 50% over his present contract with Real Madrid.

They claim that one of Varane’s key reasons for leaving the Spanish city is a pay cut, with Los Blancos being able to offer him a £1.7 million increase on his £4 million contract.

Given his decade of service, which includes four Champions League trophies, the defender believes Madrid should be able to at least match United’s offer.

However, no such offer has been made, putting United in the driver’s seat because their bid “far exceeds” Madrid’s.

In fact, according to Spotrac, it would put him in the top five salaries at Old Trafford, ahead of possible centre-back partner Maguire, who earns £9.8 million per year.

Varane would be paid more than David De Gea, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford.

De Gea, the Spanish goalkeeper, is United’s highest-paid player, earning £19.5 million per year, followed by Martial, who earns £13 million per year.

Cavani and Rashford both earn more than £10.4 million a year, with Varane close behind them if he joins United.
