Rangers v Celtic: Referee Bobby Madden defends himself for holding back Alfredo Morelos from criticism.

Referee Bobby Madden hit back at fans who argued during yesterday’s clash at the Old Firm that he unfairly restrained Alfredo Morelos.

In the second half of the game at Ibrox, the two players came together after Shane Duffy’s tackle on Ryan Kent.

Madden was seen holding back Morelos from Scott Brown in the incident, but the referee pointed out that whistles were common procedure.

At the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rangers’ 1-0 victory over ten-man Old Firm rivals Celtic pushed them 19 points clear.

It could have been a different result had it not been for Gers keeper Allan McGregor’s three world-class saves – including a superb save when he aimed a Leigh Griffiths shot against the post – when the first half was dominated by Celtic.

Ranger star Alfredo Morelos taunts Celtic captain Scott Brown after winning the Old Firm.

But after an hour, Nir Bitton was sent off for taking Alfredo Morelos down, blocking the path of the Rangers striker to the goal.

And seven minutes later, Callum McGregor’s own goal meant that Rangers took the maximum points – and advanced ever more clearly in the title chase, even though Celtic still had three games in hand.
