STEVEN GERRARD is adamant that this season, with his side’s abundance of goals, Rangers will contend for the Premier League title again.
Over the last two seasons, the Ibrox manager has watched his side struggle again and again in the league, relying primarily on striker Alfredo Morelos and unable to provide the Colombian with the requisite support.
In the summer, Gerrard added Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to his ranks and this season the power and depth were evident as Rangers benefited from a wider distribution of Premier League goals.
“Gerrard said, “I understand and appreciate your query that Alfredo was a factor in our form in terms of the New Year’s goals, but I think you have to look at the other strikers that we have, too.
Jermain Defoe was hurt and it was also about not getting goals for the strikers who brought us forward and not getting help.
“This year, that was the difference. We’re not only depending on one or two forward centers, we have four No. 9s in the building, all capable of scoring.
We have Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent, all of them capable of scoring and making goals, and people are forcing them into their places.
From normal scenarios, we also have a great hazard. To date, James [Tavernier] has had his best results. Those days are over in terms of the squad and relying on one or two individual players, and this is a safer place for me to be.
