Rangers 1 Celtic 0: How the strong performances of Celtic players came to nothing at Ibroxx

VASILIS BARKAS 6: Had almost nothing to do but manage a couple of crosses, and no chance on McGregor’s own goal.

JEREMIE FRIMPONG 6: Charged forward but, much to the annoyance of his teammates, frequently missed the end result.

KRISTOFFER AJER 7: A towering defensive man who overshadowed the forwards of the Rangers for long stretches of the game.

NIR BITTON 4: His coach scratched his head with a bizarre shot from his own half, and an even more insane decision to put Morelos down after an hour won him the sending off that left Rangers with the initiative. They had also played well in between, but the red card was too costly.

DIEGO LAXALT 6: Like Frimpong, heading forward, the full-back played well but failed to hit crosses. Brilliant tackle at the other end on Morelos.

ISMAILA SORO 7: A few early fouls and a very reckless caution, but he did his best to stifle Rangers’ midfield’s normal flow of play.

RYAN CHRISTIE 6: Throughout, he was lively but didn’t quite have his shooting abilities down as he left a few more than respectable possibilities and missed broad.

CALLUM MCGREGOR 7: For the most part, the captain was excellent and was unfortunate to see the ball deflected from his arm into the net for the Rangers’ opening goal.

DAVID TURNBULL 7: Kept Davis in check when Rangers had the ball and when Celtic had the ball, he showed his consistency. When Bitton was sent abroad, he was sacrificed.

ODSONNE EDOUARD 7: Prepared to work to stop the full backs of the Rangers, but also showed brilliant control and wonderful stamina, always offering a choice up front to his teammates.

LEIGH GRIFFITHS 7: By an amazing McGregor tip to the post, a left-footed shot was denied and was a persistent danger until sacrificed when down to 10 players.

SHANE DUFFY 2: Was substituted after Bitton’s red card and picked up a quick yellow card for a bad foul on Kent. All over the pitch.

MOI ELYOUNOUSSI 4: Should have provided some danger after Bitton was sent off and failed with a long-range shot.

SCOTT BROWN 3: The captain was unable to turn the tide.

HATEM ELHAMED 3: Not really involved.

TOM ROGIC 3: Last throw of the dice, but could not bring about the magic moment.
