Dani Ceballos was “proud” to be linked with a move to Liverpool but has explained why a move to Anfield wouldn’t have suited him.
Ceballos moved to Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer on a season-long deal and showed glimpses of his talent under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
The 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in November and only made his return to action in an FA Cup win over Bournemouth at the end of January.
Ceballos says Liverpool were “after” him but Arsenal and Emery were very persuasive.
“I was proud to have a club like Liverpool after me, but I chose Arsenal because of Unai Emery and how he was with me,” Ceballos told Spanish publication Marca.
“Right now, I wouldn’t fit in at Liverpool very well. Unai was key to me being at Arsenal.
“I went to play at a club like Arsenal because, apart from the fact that it’s a massive club, Unai practically came to my house to tell me that he loved me as a player, that he’s been in love with me since I played for Betis.”
